Highline 1 Columbia Basin 0
Nov. 16, 2025
In the end, it was only fitting that the championship match came down to
Idin Fakhri standing over the ball with a chance to win the title. Fakhri, the NWAC West Region Co-Player of the Year and the West Region Offensive Player of the Year, took the penalty kick after
Frank Meza was pulled down in the Columbia Basin box in the 100th minute of a scoreless match. Fakhri calmly struck the ball in the right corner of the net past Columbia Basin keeper Caleb Coronel for the golden goal and the celebrations began.
While Fakhri had the winning kick and took home the Championship MVP, the win was also very much due to the goalkeeping of Highline's
Kyle Goodrow. While officially being credited with four saves, he was constantly surrounded in the box by Columbia Basin strikers and fended them off with confidence and verve. In large part, it was his keeping that allowed Highline a chance for victory.
One of the ironies of the game is that the two best offenses in the league (Highline with 85 goals; Columbia Basin with 80 goals) finished regular time and then went into overtime without a goal until Fakhri scored at 100 minutes.
This is the fifth time the Highline Men's Soccer program has won the championship and the first for 2nd year head coach Skyler Roehr. The Thunderbirds last won in 2021.
Highline finishes the season undefeated at 17-0-3. Columbia Basin finishes at 16-2-1.
